The Biography of an Indian engineer.

ONE EXTA BEDROOM FLAT

As the dream of most parents I also had got the degree in Software Engineering from a good engineering college and joined a software company based in USA. As you know U.S is the land of opportunity as well as of wealth. When I arrived in California, it was like a dream had come true.
Here at last I was in the place where I as well as my parents wanted to be. I decided that I would be staying in this country for about FIVE years in which time I would have earned enough money to settle down in India.

My father was working with a private firm and mother was a teacher in a government school. And after their retirement, the only asset they can acquire was a decent one bedroom flat in a well developed area of the city.

I wanted to do something more than them. I had not ever leave my parents even for a month until now. So as days were going, I started feeling homesickness and lonely. I used to call home and speak to my parents every week using cheap international calling cards... Initial two years passed with Burgers at McDonald's and pizzas with soft drinks. During these two years with feeling of loneliness, I was getting happy when Rupee value went down over U.S Dollar....!!

Finally I decided to get married. I told my parents that I have only 10 days of holidays and everything must be done within these 10 days. I booked my ticket two months before in the cheapest flight...!! I purchased cheap gifts and chocolates for all my cousins and friends, who were waiting for me eagerly. If I would miss anyone of them, there would be talks. After reaching at home I spent home one week going through all the photographs of girls and as the time was going shorter, I was forced to select any one of them.

I convinced my in-laws that I would have to get married in 2-3 days, as I will not get anymore holidays. After the marriage, it was time to return to USA. With very heavy heart I had packed my language. After giving some money to my parents and telling my neighbors and friends to look after them, I returned to USA. After three months, completing all legal procedures here, I called my wife also at USA. I also forced my parents to come US and to leave with us but they denied my proposal as they were thinking they wont be comfortable with American culture and society.

My loving and caring wife enjoyed this country for about two months and then she started feeling lonely. The frequency of calling in India increased twice in a week, sometimes 3 times a week. Most of the time we spent during the call was to convince my parents to come here in US. But all the time they denied.

After two more years we started to have kids. Two very lovely kids, a boy and a girl, were gifted to us by the almighty. Every time I spoke to my parents, they asked me to come to India so that they can see their grand children.

Every year I decide to go to India..... But the conditions at work place prevented it. Years went by and visiting India was becoming a decent dream...!!!

Suddenly one day I got a message from my relatives in India that my parents were seriously sick. I tried but I couldn't get any leave and thus couldn't go to India... The next message after few months was my parents had passed away and as there was no one to do the last rights the neighbors and my friends had done whatever they could. I was badly depressed. My parents had passed away without seeing their grand children......

After couple more years passed away, much to my children's dislike and with my wife's joy we returned to India to settle down. I started to look for a suitable property, but to my dismay my savings were short and the property prices had gone up during all these years. I had to return to the USA... My wife refused to come back with me and my children refused to stay in India.... My two children and I returned to to USA as it was a matter of my children's future. But I promised my wife that I would be back for good after few years.

Time passed by, my daughter decided to get married to an American and my son was happy living in USA.... I decided that I had enough and wound-up everything and returned to India... I just had enough money to buy a decent TWO BEDROOM FLAT in a well-developed locality. Me and my wife had very nice life here. But we were missing our children too much. We usually called them and ask to visit India once.... But they were happy there with their own lifestyle....

Now I am sixty years old and my loving and caring wife has passed me away just before two years and gone to the holy abode. Now the only time I go out of my flat is for routine visit to the nearby temple.

Sometimes I wondered, was it worth all this??? My father, even after staying in India, had a house to his name and I have too have the same, nothing more.

I lost my parents and children for just ONE EXTRA BEDROOM.

Looking out from the window, I see a lot of children dancing. This damned cable TV has spoiled our new generation and these children are losing their values and culture because of it. Now I am getting occasional letters and email from my children asking I am alright and tell me to come back USA... Well at least they remember me....!!! It's enough for me. I dont want to go there again.

Now perhaps after I die, it will be the neighbors again who will be performing my last rights..... God bless them...

But the question still remains in my mind "was all this worth it??

Start thinking....

Is it just for one extra bed room????

Life is beyond this.... Start living it.

Live the life as you want it to be....

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dhvanilpatelec.blogspot.com/2008/04/one-extra-bedroom-flat-biography-of.html' title='ONE EXTRA BEDROOM FLAT.... She came to know that she has missed the biggest one in order to find even bigger then the biggest and she regretted.
So she ended up and went back to the teacher with empty hands.

Then the teacher told her "...... this is the LOVE. You keep looking for better ones, but when later you realized, you were too late. You have already missed the right person for you."

Then student asked "What is marriage???"
The teacher said, "In order to answer your question, go to the corn field an choose the biggest corn and come back."
But the condition was again same. "You can go through them only once and can not come back to pick it again."

The student went to the corn field. But this time he wa careful about not to repeat previous mistake. When he reached at the middle of the field, he picked one medium sized corn that he felt satisfied, and came back to the teacher.
The teacher told him, "....... this time you brought back a corn....."
Teacher again said "You look for one that is just nice, and you have faith and believe that this is the best one you can get.... This is MARRIAGE."

How to get free e-books on various subjects from world famous Publications????

Hi friends,
All of you may have faced the problems on Google or Yahoo search that they can not properly guide us to get the free ebooks on various topics often.
